Bloggy Book Club News for the Holidays!

Sunday, December 19th, 2010

And so its nearly Christmas folks, and we have been reading along together for nearly half the year, it was actually summer when we started the Sophie Dahl one..crazy?? Anyway this months book is now stretching into beginning of January, firstly to allow everyone to catch up -it being  a big  read this time – and secondly as its Christmas.

So Big happy christmas Wishes from me here at Bloggy book club HQ.. I will keep you up to date as to when @DazedPuckBunny  posts her review blog for the current read. Must say thank you mrs for such a great choice. Gawd I am enjoying it so so much, LOVE that man! keeping me both  sniggering and gasping in equal measure  in bed every night. Think Big J thinks I’ve gone mad…well more mad anyway!

Don’t forget to get the new book, Kazuo Ishiguro’s  Remains of the day (@marketingtomilk ‘s choice) in for our Jan read…. its a classic kids…whoop…makes me feel all intelligent just looking at it ;)

And if your really keen or have a few book vouchers to spend, next up in Feb is @CaraFreckles choice The Glass Room by Simon Mawer, shortlisted for the Man Booker Prize.

Oh, also, if you want to join our lovely little club, hop on! everyone welcome, and if your part of our club and have a suggestion for a book you think we should be reading please let me know. We need to fill next year with lots of great reads, please!

I’m really a young person *cough* relatively speaking, get me out of here!

Have you ever had one of those embarrassing moments when you KNOW without a shadow of a doubt, that you are in fact becoming an old person? Well…this was me this weekend.

First proof of my newly old person status was that I actually managed to go to the park with the kids in my slippers.Yes, that special club usually reserved for dotty old ladies, I can now join.  I didn’t notice until my feet hit the muddy grass. Then I looked down instinctively, and there they were, in all their inappropriate foot wear glory!

In my defence I am seriously over worked at the mo and  Big j has just bought me a pair of sheepskin boot type ones. I honestly thought I was wearing my ugg boots!

Probbally the most damming evidence of my age though is that instead of scurrying home to change said footwear (which I surely would have done 10 years ago) , I went on to feed the ducks AND do a shop in sainsbo’s…. in my slippers…yes…this girl officially has no shame! ;)

Then on Sunday, the family ickle went to get our christmas tree. Not from our traditional local place where we carry it home, me one end and big j the another, something which we have ritually done since the year we meet. No, not this year. This year we went to the garden centre….not a big deal you say..well no…but we decided to *make a day of it* eating lunch at said garden centre and mooching around all the christmas decs…..

I was actually enjoying it (any excuse to shop) until I went to visit the ladies…. There on the loo door was a familiar  sign which read…. “please do not flush nappies sanitary towels or…. (and this is the *unusual* bit) incontinence pads”…INCONTANANCE PADS!!!!! it was then I had the “I’m really a young person, get me out of hereeee!!! ” moment….complete with tiny silent scream.

This time of year is always guaranteed to make me feel older, even without the incontinence pads warnings. Some people have it with birthdays but for me, its christmas and new year that always gets me thinking..another year gone…and then shortly after…how the bloody hell did that happen, did I blink and miss it? But I guess thats what blogs are for, a diary for all the moments you think you might have missed.

Oh well, hope I have given you a seasonal giggle, even if it was slightly at my own expense. Just don’t say I never give you anything!

But go on, please, someone cheer me up for goods sake and tell me you’ve all been to town in your slippers? or should I book the stannah stairlifts man before it gets to late!? X

My Girl Crush…part two

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

A while ago I wrote a blog on my foodie girl crushes. Before I go further and just in case you missed my other blog (shame on you ;) ) the definition of the girl crush is thus….

Taken  from the Urban Dictionary.com  -Feelings of admiration and adoration which a girl has for another girl, without wanting to shag said girl. a nonsexual attraction, usually based on veneration (meaning, profound respect or reverence)  at some level. Okay..that sorted…I will carry on. (more…)
