My Foodie Girl Crush…

I have several girl crushes at the mo, but before I go any further, just so you know. I am not going to leave Big J or start eating lots of hummus ( for some strange reason, Big J thinks this is what Lesbian’s eat? .. (men?!) …Actually I do Love Hummus ;) ) So here before we start, is the meaning of ….

The Girl Crush :

( Taken  from the Urban Dictionary.com  -)

Feelings of admiration and adoration which a girl has for another girl, without wanting to shag said girl. a nonsexual attraction, usually based on veneration (meaning, profound respect or reverence)  at some level.

So that sorted, I can now show you my line up. First the Grande Dame, The One… The Only Nigella! *drum roll please*

This lady is wholly responsible for my love of cooking. The first series of Nigella Bites has been running over the weekend on the Food Network and I almost forgot how refreshingly brilliant she is. No nonsense gorgeous food delivered with that Upper Class Purrrr ..You have Just gotta love her, she leaves you no choice!   My favorite  of her books is Nigella Bites, Its now got no cover and several of the pages are stuck together with beaten egg and flour. But its still, probably my most used and lent out cook book.

Next is Giada De Laurentiis. Okay, so yes she is gorgeous. But this girl can cook! And her love for Italian Food is totally infectious!  Her show runs on the Food Network, and its fab!  As well as being a total babe she is somehow quite goofy, in a sexy way. Love That! ;)

Her recipes are super easy but effective, and they are all listed on the food network site, so whenever I fancy something Italian that’s where I go. My favorite recipe of all time of Giada’s is Chicken Cacciatore . The only thing I am unsure of  tho, is if she is actually human? As she really seems to love her food, but has THE most killer bod I have ever seen. Better than Scarlett johansson  any day ;) But even if she is from Mars, who cares…she makes food to make grown men weep.

Anyone who knows me, knows I have a bit of thing for Sophie Dahl. I know, its embarrassing. But I loved her cookery show, yes and I know lots of posh foodie types HATED it. But let me put my case….

One of her most scathing critics was food writer and fellow tv food show personality Giles Coren. He said of her on his Twitter account: ‘This Sophie Dahl show – what a crock of bogus, mendacious s**te. What a sickening sham. The BBC should be f***ing ashamed of itself.’

Well I am sorry Mr Coran, but I must disagree, yes she openly used her sexiness to sell her cooking antics ( just like someone else I could mention who’s name starts with Ni and ends in gella ;) ) But I love that! Cooking is sexy and fun and sensuous and primal I think. In one scene in the first episode, Miss Dahl said of buffalo mozzarella – ‘You can feel it slinking around in the bag – I actually sort of fantasise about this cheese’… That-a-girl ;)

And anyway, didn’t Giles have a show airing on BB2 at about the same time as Sophie ? As Mentioned in a daily Mail article “ The scenes of  Sophie  seductively toying with an olive on the end of a cocktail stick and licking her lips lasciviously after taking a deep sniff at a bottle of wine is a far cry from 40-year-old Mr Coren’s shows.”   hmm…sour grapes anyone!
I did feel a tad cheated that the spectacular shabby chic home  featured on the show is not really Sophie’s, but just hired for the show.  But hay, I doubt the lovely Blake Lively rocks up to any awards gig in her own clothes either…. I guess thats show biz!

And I can’t go without mentioning my gorgeous Twitter Pal @EnglishMum, its a bit embarrassing to say, and I hope me mentioning her here doesn’t mean she’ll never talk to me again, but va va voom Girl!

She is a total babe and her foodie blog was the first and pretty much the only one I read.  What she says about herself…

I’m a 40 year old time-wasting, talkative layabout, excessive Twitterer and arch procrastinator with a penchant for cooking, shopping, hot baths, Green & Black’s and a nice glass of red (not necessarily in that order).

My fav recipe of hers at the moment is her Teeny Weeny Chicken & Ham Pie,  as mentioned in one of her ingredients ” A Couple of slices of nice ham (not oddly wet plastic crap ham purleeese)”… lol,.. Never! ;)

Again…what’s not to love? Cheers Mrs XXxxx

P.S… @EnglishGrandma is lovely too.

WOW! I’m supremely flattered, and such illustrious company too! I love Nigella (what a stunning photo), and think Sophie Dahl is fab, so I’m made up, thanks xx

Your welcome @EnglishMum, your greatness should definitely be celebrated! ;D
And So true about the Nigella pic….I had to look very closely to make sure it was her! But then I watched some of her very early shows the other day and there she was with really long straight hair, and hardly any make-up, her image has definitely changed lots. She has Vamped up! Xxx

  3. My, what good taste you’ve got…

  4. Beckicklesie says:

Girl crushes are great! Are yours deliberately all food related? Maybe you just really like food?

    Becca x

    • Helen says:

Hello lovely Beckicklesie :) Yes these are my “Foodie Girl Crushes” but to be honest if i’d had all the choice in the world it would probably have the same results. I just love food, cooking food, watching people cooking food, eating food, giving people food, bla, bla, foodie, bla, bla…yes…i am a little food obsessed ;) Xxx

  5. TheMadHouse says:

  6. Tara says:

I can confirm that English Mum is as gorgeous (if not gorgeouser) in real life.
    And I’ve tasted her cupcakes
And she should SO have her own show

  7. Suzie Grogan says:

How about Rachel Allen? I could listen to her lovely lilting Irish accent all day and she does lovely family stuff. Didn’t watch Sophie Dahl – too bitter and twisted at her luck at getting her own pretty programme :-)

    • Helen says:

Ohhh, yes…forgot Rachel Allen, and Rachel Ray….. and Ellie Krieger ! So many …i think if you can cook your sexy! thats it!…maybe not Barefoot contessa so much, but I bet she was a hottie in her day. And you can tell her and Jeffrey still get it on ;)

I must agree with everyone you have put on the list & it is sooo lovely to see a pic of the delightful @englishmum! Nigella is someone whos cook books i turn to all the time and I must say her crimbo one has recipies i do rather often, not saving it for the old crimbo season.. in fact i did her cranberry muffins yesterday but added almonds and dates too. very yummy.
I must say I am disappointed to not see Delia! I know she isnt sexy but she reminds me of my mum and is one of those cooks that again I turn to in a crisis when my mum cant be on the end of the phone or when i really dont have a clue! Her complete cookery book was my grandmothers and its now been passed to me, most of the pages have fallen out and it is pot luck where the recipie you are looking for is actually placed as it is no longer in numerical order! her winter and summer collections are a must for me and her cook book one is something I love to cook from :0.
And yes I know hes not a girl but he could be an honorary one?…. Jamie Oliver is my other must have on the old ‘what on earth am i going to cook tonight, i need inspiration’ line. God am feeling really hungry now just thinking of all the delicious recipies in the books on my shelf! Well done you for having such delictable crushes!! :)

    • Helen says:

Hehe, thanku Niki :) I know what you mean about Jamie and Nigella. They are great for a bit of inspiration. But…and please don’t hate me for saying this..but…*whispers quietly*…I don’t like Delia….She always seems to be sneering a little bit at her audience and I think maybe she is a bit “up herself” eeek..there I said it…please don’t shoot me, still love you LOTS!!!! :) Xxx

  9. Niki says:

I couldn’t hate you you daft moo! All opinions count, even if they r the wrong ones! ;) it’s what makes the world go round. Can u believe I managed to say that in under a million words :0 x

  10. FortyNotOut says:
