4 traits of Lucky people…..

School sports bird poo day!

School sports bird poo day!

I don’t consider myself a really lucky person, never  have been.

I don’t play the lottery because I know I won’t win and the only supposedly lucky thing that ever seems to happen to me is that birds poo on me… alot!. I don’t know what it is about me, maybe they are dissing my poor fashion sense. The last time it happened was on my sons  annual school sports day.  I couldn’t even go home in shame for fear of puppy dog eyed jack saying ” Awwww, You didn’t watch my race…” . So there I sat, fetching bird poo drying nicely on left shoulder wondering why exactly this is supposed to be “lucky”!

Anyway the reason for this rambling is I was recently reading an article in Psychology Today… (Ok, its not mine, I read heat, or if I am feeling clever maybe Cosmo, and if I am feeling like torturing myself Elle home!)  Anyway, it said that new research conducted by Maia Young at UCLA has discovered that luck is not the same as chance. People who believe in luck  have it work in their favour and are  motivated to try challenging tasks and persist at them. Basically, if you think you are lucky you will be lucky. Ok, if its scientifically  proven, I’ll buy that!…

Apparently,  by studying lucky people, ( can I get a job like that!) Richard Wiseman ( clever professor type from the University of Hertordshire ) has distilled 4 steps to good fortune.

1) Break Routine – Meet new people, walk a different route to school or work. New experiences offer fresh oppertunities.

2) Turn Bad into Good, If something upsetting happens, consider how it could have been worse, and try and draw something positive from it.

3) Follow your Gut, Decisions informed by intuition often produce happier outcomes. Meditation can help this.

4) Look up, positive expectations are often self-forfilling because they increase motivation and persistence.

Ok, So I am going to give these rules a try and see if my luck improves, who knows maybe I will even have ago at the lottery and I will be writing this blog from a beach in the Seychelles next time. It would be great if you guys give them ago too and we’ll all see what happens, my kind of  science! Its not only professor boffins that can do experiments ya know ;)

Lucky mag!

Lucky mag!

Well, its been nearly a week so time for a quick up date. I have been giving the 4 steps to good fortune ago and guess what?… I have actually won something! The lovely violet posie blog was running a comp and I am a winner! whoop whoop! the prize is £30 worth of Spin Collective stuff, can’t wait to get choosing! Now I know its not the lottery but seeing as I have seriously NEVER won anything I think its a start! So I am going to try my hardest to stay looking up….with out bumping into anything! Â

    LOL to the magazine reading!!!

I agree with this, negative people always have negative things happen as they subconsciously seek out the negative.

If you’re in to this, you should read up on NLP, neuro linguistic programming, it’s all about how you frame yourself and your future etc to ensure positive things… or something like that!

  2. Good luck :P , that is a pretty cool article, the thought of people researching luck never occured to me. And I agree I have read up on NLP stuff and there is some interesting stuff. Google Richard Bandler (he and some other guy started the NLP thing in the 70′s)

I agree with the findings, but…. it sounds like a lot of hard work to me! Any other route to school but the shortest is definately not lucky! LOL

Richard Wiseman is an interesting chap..he’s got a great blog if you fancy reading it and is pals with Derren Brown who uses tons of NLP in his work.
I agree that changing your routine can bring you luck or is it just bringing new opportunities your way.
