Lovely day…

Friday, May 29th, 2009

I took milly in the baby carrier out on a walk along the river near our house this morning, its me and Ellie’s favourite place. The sun was shining after the long rain and  it was one of those moments when I really wish I’d had my camera. It was beautiful!

The swans were gliding snootally along the river bank and the sun was twinkling through the trees. Milly was craning her neck to get a good look around,  seeing the world in the perfect  sunshine for a change. luckily ellie took her camera out with her to the same spot the other day so the pics here are hers.

She seems to be developing a real talent for photograghy and she looks so cool with her big professional camera, she inherited it from my lovely father… i think he would be  proud!….

When we got home Milly had a bit of a nap so I managed to sketch out these new canvases while it was  quiet, but soon enough little miss was awake again, I guess there’s  no rest for the wicked!…

lovely lovely fabric

lovely lovely fabric

Ahhhhh,   just spent an entire morning in a fruitless search for this fab fabric , I am beyond  frustrated and the pure fact that I can’t get it is making me want it so much more! I am always like this with fabric, its an unhealthy addiction! I can happily spend hours looking at lovely, lovely fabric thinking up ways to use it.  It is also a great inspiration for my canvases, thats how I came across this lovely owl print,  I was researching owls for a new set of story canvases I’ve been developing,  I have a great idea for the story and just wanted to get some inspiration on some cute owl moves!

I was the same when the Rocket Rascals (michael Miller) print came out, I  have a little of that left and I still completely love it!

So anyhow if anyone knows of any corner of the world where this fabric still exsists, I will love you forever if you tell me…

thanks Guys,

Helen x

Losing the baby weight …

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

-me-and-mills
I had my lovely Milly 15 weeks ago now and I’m getting a bit frustrated that I’m still not back in my pre-preggers jeans yet, don’t get me wrong alot of the extra poundage has gone but im still, shall we say far from where i want to be.
I really want my little bum back and my flat (ish) tummy and I long not to have to wear long tee shirts to cover up my muffin tops. But where does this burning desire to bounce straight back into my skinnies come from? And why do I feel like such a failure if I can’t do it as soon as I’ve given birth?
Celebrities dont help, why is it they seem to have the super human ability to look amazingly skinny about two minutes after giving birth?
I decided to do a bit of investigateing to find out, was there some great holly grail secret to weight lose that us mere mortals are not privy too, or is it simply that they are better human beings?
Well I found some interesting “facts” on the internet, apharently Madonna had a scheduled “celebrity” c-section, ( one where you have a c-section and tummy tuck at the same time) They even schedule you to deliver 6 weeks before your due date so your baby is smaller and you don’t  put on so much weight. This is just crazy!
But before I go down the road of slatting these Mum’s as vain selfish brats with more money than sense it started to make me think about the kind of society we live in where its concidered glamourous to rock out of the materinity ward looking like a pre-pubesent girl rather than a glowing, abeit slightly rounded new mum.
What is up with that ? Surely the act of making , nuturing and giving birth to a new life is amazing enough without having to look incrediable  at the same time.

Other celebrities seem to sweat it out the hard way in a bid to lose there baby fat, Jamie Pressly ( she of My Name is Earl fame)  spent a wooping three hours a day, every day in the gym just weeks after giving birth to her little son Dezi in May 2007.  She went from 155 pounds to 125 in under eight weeks. After dropping the first 10 pounds, she went on an all-protein diet, eating four to six times a day. Her trainer said she did what might take other clients six months to achieve. Call me nieve but what about her kid?, where was he in all this frenzied weight loss programe? surely this is the time for bounding with your little bundle of joy, I think after a wooping 3 hour work out I would be incabable of moving let alone spending the rest of the day (and night) taking care of a tiny new born.
It all makes me look at my new body in a new light, yes I do still want to shift my extra baby pounds but I am not going to celebrity extremes to do it, Im just going to take lots of walks with little Milly and try to eat right and most importantl,  give it time!

have you got baby brain?

Thursday, May 7th, 2009
She's got baby brain!

She's got baby brain!

let me tell you a story about my useless brain … it all started the other day when I went to school to pick up my nine year old.

I was pleased to catch up with his best buddies mum claire, we had aranged to take jack and her son ben away for the weekend to lego land and I wanted to finalise a few last minute things with her. As I asked her about  the upcoming weekend she just looked at me blankly. It turns out I had invited ben but not told claire when we were going, I was so embarrised!

Luckally ben did’nt have any other plans and they all had a great weekend, but for me it was the last straw in a long line of forgetfulness that started about 12 months ago.  Ever since  I found out I was pregnant. The cataloge of forgetfulness is exstensive from minor anoyances like leaving my shopping in sainsbury’s to bigger things like falling out with the other half because I am adimant about a conversation I’m sure I have had with him ( I tell him he never listens ) and then realise I havent!
I have heard that being pregnant can cause dottiness but I felt sure once my little bundle of joy arrived I would be back to full capasity ( I have always been a little bit blonde if you know what I mean so I was’nt exspecting miracles!) but milly is 3 months old now and my brain still apears to missing in action, will it ever return, does anyone else suffer from this mushy brain sydrome?
if they do there not talking, there are loads of diet and exersize plans to get your bod back in shape but what about a programe to stop me feeling like a dribbling idiot, I can just about learn to live with my new muffin tops (curvy is the new black dont ya know..) but I can’t live without my brain, its kinda essential!
I have read somewhere that your brain volume actually decreases when your pregnant , and a study conducted in australia concluded that although women had no trouble remembering familular things like phone numbers when it came to new imformation or anything challenging pregnant women and new mums simply couldnt take it in, aparhantly high levels of the prenancy hormone chrorionic gonadotrophin could be to blame as they affect short term memory and motor skills.
So next time your at the supermarket if you see a slightly confussed women aimlessly looking for her shopping, she’s probably not mad she may well have just had a baby!

I’m off to steal my little boys DS now, although I’ll  have to find my brain before I can train it! xxx
